When I moved to Riverside, when I was about 5 years old made a number of friends but there was one above all the others. His name was Angel. We were best friends - almost brothers until about High School...During that time we started to drift away - each going our own path.
The last time I saw him was during the memorial service for my mom back in November 2001. Today he found me on facebook (Thank you Lital for having me develop that profile on facebook). So we started exchanging messages again.
It's bittersweet to remember the past and all that went on and now to realize just how much older we are and the different directions our lives have taken. In essence we have known each other for 3 decades! That is kind of a shock to say...but its true. What good memories!
Writers Guild on Strike
The funniest tag line I have seen so far is - Fake News Shows Hardest Hit!
Yeah I hate unions....Loathe them with a passion. They are an unneeded entity that serves only to leech the members. This strike is no different. I bet you most of us wont even realize there is a strike going on based on the goings on with "fake news shows" like Colbert Report or the Daily Show! Then you have the late night shows like David Letterman and Jay Leno!
Part of me hopes the strike just lingers on. Yeah I am evil that way!
Because in my mind its not like some unwashed masses who are being abused. These are well paid writers who just want more money.
Donnie Darko slams @ Ace of Spades
In the thread about slamming the new "anti-war" movie Lions for Lambs - which I wont be seeing...there are a couple of interesting comments:
One example of this trend is Donnie Darko - dedicated fans (the
director too) think this sort of fiction is deep and thought provoking
but its just convoluted nonsense posed as good art.
THANK YOU! One of the most insufferably boring and pretentious films ever produced.
Do you agree or disagree?
UPDATE: I did not make the above comments. I am just reporting them!

Donnie Darko a boring movie??? This is a your comment Robert? well, ok, anyone can freely speak of course
but define this movie "boring" means that the peoples didn't had really understand at all the "meaning" of the movie. I bought the director's cut and there are some scenes that help the watcher to understand a bit more the movie. also to understand completely Donnie Darko, is better to read some books about quantum physics.. THEN you can comment this movie..

No it wasn't my comment. It was a comment I found at Ace of Spades.
I actually like the movie. But found the comments made to be rather funny. There are some films that take themselves seriously because the topics are serious (Schindlers List would be a good example). But, Donnie Darko would not be a good example, IMHO. That does not mean its any less thought provoking or enjoyable.
Have you seen the movie What Dreams my come? Another very philosophical movie. One of my favorites as well.
The problem is when Hollywood tries to take itself too seriously. That is what the thread was about at Ace's. Hence my next blog post about the Writers Guild now on strike!

"what dreams may come" with Robin Williams, I'm correct? (I remember only italian title hehehehe
) yeah! one of my favorite too. an amazing scenography, acting, nice plot and a great ending. there are a lot of "cult" movies that very few peoples knows.. i.e. The Matrix is a great movie but there are also some others film like this.... anyone have watched "Dark City" ('9
or "The Thirteenth Floor" ('99) ?

Yeah thats the right movie. The Cinematography is just amazing in that movie. And the philosophical subject matter is just amazing - yeah I am a geek I know.
You know the first time I saw the Matrix - I disliked it. it took about 3-4 more viewings (at work LOL) that I finally warmed up to it..but the first one was the best. They ruined it with the sequels!

I enjoyed Matrix 2, there was some interesting things about Neo, like when he meets The Architect and he reveals to him that in the past there was some others Neo and others Zion. and the ride with the motorcycle... omg... that ride was awesome (btw I DON'T RIDE LIKE Trinity hehehe LOL
) instead the Matrix 3 was IMHO totally bland, with those big armored robot.... mmm they ruined everything.. oh, about Monica Bellucci: I really hope that in english she's has been dubbed... her real voice is horrible LOL (like the voice of Asia Argento!)

I never heard of Donnie Darko until I saw Litals video clip. I thought the movie was thought provoking and entertaining. Makes me think what if time travel were possible? Boring and pretentious? Not in my opinion, one thing I did get out of it , there's good and bad , light and dark, pureness coruption, Fear and love and something that fills every crevice in between called Mankind. I also thought about the idea of destiny versus free will. is there a predestined path for your life? what if you choose to diverge? if i start to think too deep should i reach for a beer?

Theoretically time travel is possible. The problem is the practicality of doing it and making it feasible. This was one of the topics in my math for liberal arts class (the only math class I ever took where the assignments were more philosophical related than math related). As for predestination - if you believe in a higher being - to some degree you do believe in predestination. Though it is a very sliding scale.
Beer? Nah I got two bottles of wine right here!

Football pool
Damn this was a devastating week for me in the football pool. Yeah I know the Dallas game hasn't started yet..and then there is Monday Night. But, damn! Either the team I selected lost or the team that won did not cover the damn odds! See I missed the first week (registered late) So I have been building a nice little comeback on the Ace of Spades pool. I am actually ranked 12th (tied with 4 other people) - which I must say is pretty good. and I expected to continue this progress this week...well Hells Bells..that was crushed! Out of 11 games so far I only won 2...a MEASLY TWO! I even chose the Patriots and they won but those fuckers didn't even cover the spread! Damn Damn Damn!
Blog upkeep
In this coming week, I am going to be updating more links to the blogroll. Adding many many more blogs that I find of interest. Give them a once over. You might find them interesting as well. Many of these blog have been participating in various carnivals like Haveil Havalim.
I want my Sunday's back!!! LOL
It's like every week on Sundays, I am here grading papers! UGH sometimes it gets so old. And I have no one else to vent too..so the blog gets to hear it. Yeah yeah teaching gives me an extra 20-30 thousand a year...but man...there are times where I would like to just have an occasionally Sunday to relax...watch Dallas stomp the competition or see the Pats finally lose a game (unless they cheat again! LOL)
In reality this Sunday isn't so bad. Only 2 real classes of grading that have to be done with papers that go beyond a page. So that's what 40-45 students. The other 4 classes are short papers - about a page in length.
Like I said, I am not really complaining, just venting a bit. Hell my vacation, house decoration and such are all being paid for with this money so I do really appreciate the extra influx of monies...Getting an extra 2 grand a month is a nice bonus!

would watch and discuss sexually oriented materials.
I'm finding it hard to believe that five kids won't step up to the extracurricular challenge.
In her MySpace.com page, Starr claims to be strip club dancer.
OK, now it is inconceivable that five kids won't step up.
How how I miss college life! ROFL!!!!! (as a student mind you, solely as a student!) LOL!!! I wonder what the initiating ceremony will be like...handcuffs? role playing? Acting out? LOL!!
Exit question: Do you think college's can use this as a marketing technique to attract more students?
Beaufort
I haven't blogged about this but if you get the chance....watch this movie. It's damned good. I have seen it already about 4 times.
It is that good.
Here is a wikipedia link about the movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaufort_(film)
It sort of reminds me of Jarhead - which I think is also a pretty good movie.
I highly recommend this movie. It is very very good and well done! The cinematography is just excellent. And now I am actually going to be ordering the book the movie is based on!
When is a good time
Now that I have some serious christmas lights (and will have even more soon!) When is a good time to put them up? Closer to Thanksgiving? After Thanksgiving?
Hillary's blunder(s)
The last democratic debate will go down in the annals as Hillary's worst performance EVER! She actually endorsed giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Ever since then she has been making mistake after mistake. It is just such a great thing to see. If Obamaessah was on top of things he would be riding her hard (I know not a good image) and picking up points at her expense. Most recently she is blaming people going after her as gender bashing! If she cannot take the heat and criticism from those in her very own party how in the hell is she going to be commander in chief?
All I know is that I have some wine, goat cheese and crackers and I am enjoying the show! And the closer it gets to primary time, the more interesting it is going to get!
WOW a nice and relaxing weekend!
This is my first relaxing weekend in about a month!
Finally a chance to just wind down and relax with the kitties! I just have my regular house cleaning chores..and I must get a haircut (damn curly hair). But beyond that and my normal school work! WHOOO!! relaxing. I am so going to see Elizabeth the Golden Age finally!
Yesterday, after work, my boss and I went to Costco and she got most of her Christmas shopping done. I got Christmas lights!
The cascading ones. I am positive I will get more lights before the month is out.
Then after that we went to Borders. WOW I ended up getting two books there....one on the history and development of Judaism and second one on the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire called 1453!
It was a good way to end the week and a great way to start the weekend! Finally a chance to recharge!
