New years past

I think my favorite holiday has always been New Years.  Where one can lay the past back in the past and everyone has an optimistic view of the coming year.  It really is the only optimistic holiday (that does not center around giving or getting gifts).

When I was a kid, almost without fail, I would get sick around Xmas and New Years.  I loathed it since I was off of school and was not able to enjoy my time off.  But, during that time I started creating traditions that now as I am thinking of them bring a smile to my face.

For example, New Years Eve when I lived at home...I would record and listen to the mixes that the Djs played on 99.1 FM.  They would basically break down the last 10 years of music in 10 hours and welcome the new year.  There would even be fireworks that would be synchronized to the music on Mt Roubidoux.  (when I went there).  It was really cool and I think for about 10 years that was my tradition.  I still have casette tapes of those mixes (but I barely have a casette player now LOL).  When and if I was going out my mom would help me record them. Because she enjoyed the music too.   ALSO, back in the early days of MTV (you know back when it played music videos) they would do a yearly countdown of top videos for the year.  I have those recorded too, but on VHS! (and no vcr to play them) LOL.

When I moved to Pasadena, this was both the best of times and the absolute worst of times.  The whole area was very Christmasy til about the end of the first week of January, it would generally be very rainy, but what was the absolute worst was the massive amounts of people who would come to the area becuase of the Rose Bowl and the Tournament of Roses Parade.  (both of which will be huge again tomorrow!).  It would make my commute to my job change from a 7 minute commute to about a 1 hour commute!  That just totally sucked....hehe...so I would try to coincide my vacation and time off around those time periods.

Since I moved out to AZ, I havent really had any new traditions.  It's like everything is in flux.  The first year Greta was here.  The next year I was alone in an apartment.  Last year I was moving into my house and still had lots of unpacking to do.  Now, its rather relaxing and peaceful.  Who knows this might be a good tradition...a movie and just kicking back and listening to the mixes and music again!

Yes, various radio stations around here are playing LOTS of new years mixes and countdowns and I am enjoying it.   Or I might just put on Highander the TV series and watch a marathon of that series!

I am evil.

See I have admitted it.  I know it ...I embrace it.  And I know I shouldn't have these thoughts but quite frankly I do!  Especially when I read this report:

A report by the International Federation of Journalists shows that 134 journalists lost their lives in 2007 while covering news stories. Not surprisingly, Iraq lead the countries in most casualties but I want to take a look at the other numbers here.
The report states that 68 of the deaths happened in the Middle East. Then it goes on to list the following death tallies:

Somalia 8 deaths
Pakistan 7 deaths
Sri Lanka 6 deaths
Mexico 6 deaths
Philippines 5 deaths

My first response when I read this...was it couldn't happen to a bunch of more deserving people.  - See this is why I am evil.  I loathe the MSM (main stream media).  In my mind they have cost far too many lives this year and they should have paid in double the lives lost.  See this is how bad I am!

Underrated 80s bands

The Blow Monkeys

They were really cool in the mid 80s - had a couple of really good hits and then just disappeared.

Doesn't have to be that way

Charlie Wilson's War

I saw that movie today and wow...it was good.  Very good.  You wouldn't think that there would be a decent amount of humor in this movie but suprisingly there was!  Also, one of my things that I was concerned with ws the view of President Reagan during this movie - surprisingly - given the writer (Aaron Sorkin) bias's there was no republican bashing in it!   If I would go see a movie at the theater more than once - this would be it.  I am so gonna buy it on DVD when it comes out.  This is defiantely one of Tom Hanks best roles and it simply is the best Phillip Seymour Hoffman's role.  Lots of good character acting and a pretty damn good retelling of history.

Pakistan???

Does anyone want to give odds on the chances of a civil war breaking out in Pakistan?  Since the assassination of Bhutto, Pakistan seems to be flying without a pilot.  Riots are ongoing, martial law is declared and ISI and Al Queda seem  to be rather close to breaking Musharraf's grip on power.  How long do you think its going to be before the ISI and Al Queda get their hands on the bomb?  What about India?  For that matter what about China?  This clearly has potential to destabilize the entire region.  Not to mention our troops in Afghanistan - heavens if we forget how this is going to affect their ability to get supplied and reinforced.  Geez just even thinking about these few scenarios, I am only seeing bad ways this is really going to turn out.

Year in review

Wow, the year is nearly history and what a year it has been!

In late January (on or around Jan 23rd) I found out about Tasha and Dishka from Mere Rhetoric.  Thanks to you Omri - for highlighting the girls clips.  February 1st was my first message from Tasha.  From there it has evolved - from fan to friend.

Fast forward to the end of January to April 10th - Settling in my home.  Developing the Tasha and Dishka Network. LOL (chatroom and friendships with those of us who became their "regular viewers")  Dan did the myspace,  Steve, Dan and I each created youtube chatrooms - that one time or another were official ones until youtube decided to muck up the works.  Now, the one I created still exists - though not used as much.  The girls occasionally visited the chatroom - which always seemed to fill up when they were there.  LOL.  Then April 10th I decided to create the blog.

As I look back on my first post - it seems such a long time ago.  I wanted to strike a balance between the Tasha and Dishka Hey clip blog and something more serious.  I wanted to balance "teh funnah" and the serious.  I wanted to have clips but also commentary.  When the girls went to SE Asia, it gave me a chance to really tap into the Tasha and Dishka themes and clips.  But when things in the world happen like the Amnesty debate or events in Israel would hit the stage I would blog about that - of course no where near as comprehensive as say Hotair.com or Michelle Malkin or even the King Moron himself - Ace!  But, I would add my two cents to it.  But I never lost track to the one of the main reasons I created the blog and that was to serve as a fitting tribute to the best video creators ever, Tasha and Dishka!

Mistakes, oh yeah I made some whoppers! and I still make them. LOL  It was difficult at times to find a middle ground as to what can be blogged and what I should hold back.   In a way blogging is no where near like a diary, once you know people are reading it, you instinctively hold back.  In a way it is like what Lital said about the popularity of the hey clip, it changes you.  And, I know that my thought processes have totally changed since I started the blog.  Even up to about 6 months ago, I would have just spilled my guts out - now I tend to weigh my thoughts more carefully and try to work them out before I publish it here.

Anyway, the big push on the blog happened while the girls were on vacation and I did the countdown.  Man, those were fun times trying to come up with the attraction and not to repeat myself because in reality I hardly knew anything about the girls or the clips.  I think I winged it pretty good all things considered.

Once the girls got back the blog began to develop its own personality, my bios, my posting's from "teh funnah" like the sex studies from Ace of Spades, and my barely readable political commentary tended to drift away the focus from the girls.  But the contact was always there.   In a way we shared their pain when we felt the team was breaking up.  We wished them the best of luck when they went to school.  We were concerned when we found out they were going to school close to Gaza.  All of this has gone on while we are essentially half a world away!  In a lifetime I never would have thought something like this was even remotely possible.   Yet it has and the feelings it raises is something that I have a hard time expressing in words.

Also, one of my most favorite highlights has been having Tasha, Dishka and Yair comment on the blog.

With this in mind, I am very eager and looking forward to the journey that will be 2008!  Whatever happens, I hope and I believe the friendships I have made this year will thrive even more in the year to come.

ALERT - Benazir Bhutto assassinated

ALERT: Benazir Bhutto Dead - [Liberrocky]

More details soon.

Update (Slublog) - First reports coming in:

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Dec. 27 (AP) - (Kyodo)—(EDS: UPDATING)

Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto died Thursday from her injuries sustained in a suicide attack at a political rally for her here, reports said.

"At 6:16 p.m. she expired," Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital, was quoted by the Associated Press as saying.

A senior military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment, confirmed that Bhutto had died, according to the report.

At least 20 people were also killed in the blast, according to witnesses.

Obviously, terrible news. Breitbart reports that Bhutto's supporters are already starting to blame President Musharraf, who may declare emergency (martial) law.

According to rumors - there are those who are saying after the bombing she was shot in the neck.  This was a cold blooded assassination. And, folks, lets keep in mind - Pakistan is a nuclear nation!

As they say, nothing to see here... move along.

G-d help us all.

Why I hate liberals part 3,460!

From Arutz Sheva and Ace

There is a paper floating around that "finds"  that there are, well let me quote this article:

A research paper that won a Hebrew University teachers' committee prize finds that the lack of IDF rapes of Palestinian women is designed to serve a political purpose.

The abstract of the paper, authored by doctoral candidate Tal Nitzan, notes that the paper shows that "the lack of organized military rape is an alternate way of realizing [particular] political goals."

The next sentence delineates the particular goals that are realized in this manner: "In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it can be seen that the lack of military rape merely strengthens the ethnic boundaries and clarifies the inter-ethnic differences - just as organized military rape would have done."

The paper further theorizes that Arab women in Judea and Samaria are not raped by IDF soldiers because the women are de-humanized in the soldiers' eyes.

Now, let me repeat that in BOLD:

The paper further theorizes that Arab women in Judea and Samaria are not raped by IDF soldiers because the women are de-humanized in the soldiers' eyes.

Can you fucking believe this shit?  By this logic, the rapes by UN peacekeepers in Africa were done because....those being raped were not dehumanized.  So, whats better?  Being raped or being dehumanized? What kind of logic is this?  Can anyone explain this to me?  Fucking liberals may they be sent to the 9th ring of hell and linger there for infinity!

Why I loathe Liberals part 3,459

I really loathe liberals.  I tend to find them two faced hypocritical individual who shout that they are against oppression but only when it affects them and their views.  Yet have anyone speak an idea counter to their frame of reference and you are as bad as Hitler (I know..I have been compared to Hitler a few times in my life).  Yet, here we are giving ANOTHER example of the hatred of Jews by the liberal "elite."  G-d I loathe liberals with the passion!

From Ace:

My Left Wing Co-Blogger: I Hate Jews
Correction: NOT Maryscott O'Connor

Correction/Apologies: I'm informed this post was written by her co-blogger, "Miss Mannered," not by Maryscott O'Connor herself. Apologies/correction.

Her site's down because everyone in the world just linked it, but here's a representative quote I got from the Daily Kos via LGF:

I now find myself, for the first time in my life, hating Jews.

...

I find myself thinking that Proximity perhaps has the right idea, that Jews regard other human beings as objects, to be sacrificed to the interests of Jews. That Jews will always stand with other Jews no matter their guilt, and against non-Jews, no matter their innocence. The face of Jews has become unspeakably ugly in my sight, because of the ugliness of the Jewish haters here.

Note she said Jewish haters -- Jews who hate -- not Jew haters, of which she considers herself one.

When you're too anti-semitic for the Daily Kos crowd... dude. Dude.

Funny, she doesn't look crazy or anything:

Maryscott O'Connor says her liberal Web log, My Left Wing, is

The Washington Post featured a big, mostly sympathetic* article on this rather obscure blogger a while ago. Think they'll do a follow-up?

Or do they only do positive pieces on obscure leftwing psychotics?

* Note I said mostly sympathetic. When your subject is floridly insane and thinks a good photo consists of her raging at you with "dem crazy-eyes," there's only so much you can do to spin her as an attractive figure.

Full Post: The site's reachable again. Here's the post:

I did not come to this site to fight in the Jew Wars.
I came to join with MSOC [Maryscott O'Connor], in her words, to rage against the lying of the right, against injustice and cruelty. Instead, I found injustice, cruelty and hate directed at me.

I left, then, earlier this year, not because I was reluctant to engage in verbal combat with the people who insisted on making themselves my enemies , but because I discovered myself descending to their level, from rational discourse to insults and invective.

Several months ago, at the suggestion of MSOC, I returned to this site, resolved that I would never again descend to the moral cesspit occupied by the haters. I would willingly engage in civil and rational discourse with anyone of good will, but if they refused, I would ignore them.

Unfortunately, the same persons whose emnity and hostility were so pervasive before immediately resumed their campaign to discredit me, not only rejecting my overtures of peace, but mocking them.

These hateful persons are Jews. At one point, I would have disregarded this fact, but I no longer can. This site has been nothing but the battleground of the Jew Wars, and it is not possible to escape the toxic fallout.
Some persons here have posted remarks offensive to Jews, remarks that no one would have regarded seriously if not for the Jews, as they stridently identify themselves, calling for banning and lynch mobs and denunciation of the posters whose words have offended them. They have made it very clear that they are willing to destroy this site, to make it a barren no-man's-land where no civil discourse can survive, unless the persons they charge with antisemitism are silenced and driven out.

I know that these Jews will continue to conduct their hate campaigns with impunity as well as self-righteousness, because the people in charge of this site regard them as friends, but they are false, treacherous friends, willing to destroy the site that has befriended them.

And these same persons, these Jews, have not only continued their malicious attacks on me, but others, also Jews, have joined their Hate Squad, solely on the grounds that they are Jews and have been offended by someone, and thus arrogate to themselves the right to hate and insult a person who has done them no harm and no offense.

And the consequence is this: I now find myself, for the first time in my life, hating Jews. I find myself hating the Jews on this site, both the Jews who have conducted their malicious campaign against me for so long and the Jews who have stood by in silent solidarity with them, never saying a word against their vile attacks, their cruelty and ugliness.

And this is not a place where I wish to be, a place that breeds such hate, where such thoughts come upon me. The Jews who hate me may have surrendered their souls to the darkness, but I refuse to do the same, to surrender to hate. They are only a few evil-minded, hateful people, and I am leaving this place to them, to conduct their pogroms, to drag it down into the moral cesspit of the Jew Wars.

I only feel sorry for MSOC, betrayed by those she considered her friends, but who are willing to destroy everything she created here, just to spread hate.

So it's not Maryscott O'Connor, but rather a notorious Jew-hater she thought would be a lively voice to feature on her blog.

As Kos notes, "Miss Mannered" was begged to stay by most of the My Left Wing crowd, including a moderator:

See how many people tell the diarist how much they appreciate her input and beg her to stay. BEG THE JEW-HATER TO STAY! A site that calls itself "My Left Wing" begs the Jew-hater to stay, INCLUDING A MODERATOR.

Ha
