Next step on vacation and some reactions

Well, now that the tickets are nailed down!! WHOO...I have to spend time teaching so I can pay down the Credit card hehe...luckly I am supposed to get my raise any day now...so that will help too...but now I have to start planning hotels, itinerary and such.

___

So, immediately after purchasing my ticket the first person I told was my sister.  Actually I did not even make it out of the airport before I was on the phone with her.   She was really happy for me...she said mom would be very proud of what I have done with my life.   I really don't know how to respond to things like that.. Just never have, I just said thanks.   I asked her to take me to the airport once Sept rolls around - I will be damned to leave my car in an airport unattended LOL..She said she would...    So I am even happier another issue resolved.

Later that day, I called my grandmother and gave her the news. She was very excited and very nervous/scared.  I think she is nervous with the bombings and such...well that isn't going to stop me from going!   I am going to call her back to get the number of a more distant relative, grandma believes that she will know about any relations we have in Israel.  So, that is next on my agenda.

Heheh...people at work crack me up.   Everyone is happy that I got the tickets LOL (I think they want me out of the office LOL) and my secretary..she says the day before I go they are going to get me a funeral wreath as a going away gift.  Joe, one of our foremen, overhead Daryl and I talking about my flight and stuff and he asked me where I was going and I told him Israel for two weeks and he was like..wow..umm..aren't there bombs and stuff going on there LOL  then he said just be careful.

That pretty much sums up the reactions so far.

Teh FRED Drops out!

Well it's happened the one really true conservative in the Republican Race has dropped out.  He did better than Guiliani but not good enough and now there are RUMORS swirling that the Presidency wasn't the main office he was interested in...and his primary motive was the VP slot.  Well that makes sense given the type of campaign he ran.  Geez  you are talking about a professional actor who had the smoothness of Reagan but did not have the FIRE IN THE BELLY to do what it takes to become the next Reagan.  Stupid. Well, I hope he does get a VP slot, especialy if the Maverick is the presumptive nominee.

RIP

Today Heath Ledger died.  He was 28 years old and drugs were suspected. Another wasted life down the drain.  I feel sorry for his daughter, but if drugs were the cause...then it was his fuck up and it was a waste of talent.

Anyway, RIP.

The End of a friendship.

Well, today was my last chat with Yair.  He felt he needed to cut the cord with everything that has gone on and he basically said that I was the last part of it.  It's too bad. I have always thought he was a good guy and will miss the chats with him.  As I told him I understand and respect his decision. He has removed me from facebook and probably every other means of contact.  I wish him the very best in his life and hope he has fun and all the best!

Venezuela - The SNL Edition.

I just love Saturday Night Live parodies....CLASSIC SNL..if its past like 1995 - SNL sucks.   Here is Ace (actually its Purple Avenger - but after a few Val-U-Rites - who can tell the fucking difference!)  doing what he does best.....this is why he is the King!

UPDATE
Chavez is also blaming food shortages on smuggling and "contraband" being shipped to neighboring countries where the stuff can be sold for considerably more than locally where price controls apply. Naturally, he blames "greedy retailers" for this and threatens deployment of the military to the borders to contain the smuggling operations.

Note to Hugo: Hugo you ignorant slut -- its obviously your own corrupt military giving the smugglers protection for kickbacks. You don't even know how your own culture operates you fucking moron. Retailers may be smuggling some, but I'm willing to bet a donut that the bulk of it is moving straight out of the farm fields and over the borders. The poor campesinos you love so much who voted you in aren't quite as stupid or dedicated to "the revolution" as you think they are.

Funniest Comment of the day

From Ace!

This is in regard of a huge financial issue brewing in Venezula.  It seems the government is trying to force banks to loan out money at 15% when the market rate is actually @ 22%.

Well at Ace - commenters are starting to talk about Hell Even Adam Smith said this and said that  - from his economic treatise - Wealth of Nations (Yes I have two copies of this work).

Well the comment of the day is this:

Shit Adam Smith Said

Is this an AoSHQ promotional book only? 50 bucks, you say? Original book copy which just happens to look like a spiral notebook stolen from a 5 year-old girl with glitter and animal stickers?

Where can I buy this?

YEAH  - I want to buy that too!  Though, hell I expected it to be more than $50.00!

My crazy day.

Wow Yesterday was a crazy day.  It started off early...my sister called and my bro in law and her were coming over and they were bringing Jason - a childhood friend I have known for about 30 years.   Just seeing him brought back flashbacks...it was good seeing him...he is in the military and just got back from Afghanistan.  I think I will end up seeing him more while he is here...

So, they come over here and my bro in law is installing my ceiling fans.  Jason is working on my home theater system.  We run into a couple of issues and my sis, Jason and I end up at Home Depot and then WalMart LOL.  I end up getting a shelving unit for the home theater unit and we come back to the house.  Another snag.  It seems the screws that came with the ceiling fan did not FIT!  So, off to home depot again! LOL.  We get that...and between about 1 pm - 5 pm they are working the projects.

In the end 1 Fan is done...the home theater system is done and set up - and most importantly...TESTED. and after a few IT WORKED!  So, watched 2 movies...hehe..the sound is AWESOME!  And after the family left I ended up dozing off for a bit LOL...Now here is where it gets crazy. LOL

9 pm rolls around and I get a phone call...and texts from some lady friends of mine and they are already at my place LOL...So, after them T.Ping my house...writing on my car with lipstick...and  generally being a nucance they finally come in....and we had a great time until they left around 1:30 am.   Crazy times...but fun times.

Shopping

It is Happy Friday!!!! So, after work since today was not a gym day, my boss and I decided to go shopping.  We went to the Biltmore Mall.  Now, this is not a regular mall.  This is the very high end part of Phoenix where all the "pretty people" tend to go shopping.  (That is the code word for Rich People).   So, at first she did her shopping at Saks 5th Avenue and a Jewelry store (I cant remember the name) she is getting ready for her trip to Paris.  So, by the time we were done we went back to the car put all of her bags in it and we ended up driving to the far end of the mall, used valet parking and went into one of my favorite stories, Borders!  Well, I was bad...not too bad..but bad enough.  See, I am trying to save money for the vacation!  But, the had some books that I have been trying to get for years!  So, I got them.

The first one is:  Sulla the Fortunate.  A Biography of Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix, Dictator of Rome.  Probably one of the most hated and underrated Roman and General of all time.  Here is a man that went from nothing (all he had was a noble name - but was broke) and he became an undefeated Roman General and Dictator of Rome.  It is argued that one of the reasons Caius Julius Caesar was assassinated is that he would have become another Sulla!  Anyway, when I was in the Roman Group - this was the name I chose in honor of this man.  A true political strong man who was able to achieve his goals no matter what the cost.

The second book was 14 Byzantine Rules - by Michael Psellus.  Michael Psellus lived in the 11th Century and he wrote about the Emperors he was serving.  A first source reading of the history of the Byzantine Empire from Basil II the Bulgar Slayer until Michael VII (107 .  I have wanted this book for YEARS and had been unable to find it.  Now I did.   WHOOO!!!! More reading.

Finally the last book I got was one that my boss spotted and she thought it would be great to have before my trip. It is called Israel from the Air.   I guess you could tell what it is about, pictures, very scenic pictures of Israel taken from an airplane or helicopter!  Amazing photos of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the cover is a shot of Masada.    It basically is a coffee table book.   Very very cool.
