Gaza - what to do

As a student of history, this is something I have dwelt upon for a long long time.  There are many ways one can handle this situation.  Just because there are many ways this type of situation can be handled does not mean the situation will get better....for all we know it could get worse.  So, one has to look at history as a sort of guide or at least a benchmark.

What history tells us is that appeasement does not work.  All one has to say is World War II.  Yet in my opinion this is precisely what Israel is tending to do.  Negotiations with terrorists only show the terrorists that you are willing to cave.  What has Israel received - in terms of ANY benefits - by signing any peace treaty with the PA?  or really for that matter Egypt?  Egypt and Israel only really get along because there is a common threat - Hamas.

So, the peaceful path is not satisfactory.  That ultimately leaves the more decisive, warlike and aggressive path, and if history is any guide, this is the path that works.  Want me to prove it, simple.  Because of our (the allies) utter determination in WWII we (the allies) forcefully removed the will of war from two of the most warlike people on earth (the Germans and the Japanese).  How was this done?  A complete and utter destruction of the infrastructure and complete demoralization of the the residents.  Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.   There are many other examples in World War II alone...but as history is a guide, this type of action is not unique.

Another great example to illustrate just how valid this course of action is occurring during the 17th century.  The 30 years war (1618-164 devastated Germany so utterly, so completely, so thoroughly that it is said that hardly any vegetation grew in the land for almost a generation.  In reality Germany did not recover from the devastation for almost two hundred years - so great was the impact of that war.  One could go even further back to history, the great Roman Historian Tacitus said of the Roman conquest, "they make a desert and call it peace."  There is a clear lesson in all of this.  Israel and western civilization has unfortunately failed to learn from history.  And thusly is condemned to make the same mistakes all over again.

What I propose, with all due respect, because honestly, I care more for the lives of Jews than I do for the lives of Arabs is the complete and utter destruction of Gaza.  No more pussyfooting around, no more taking out the leaders alone.  The leaders are just part of the problem.   No what I call is for complete total war against Hamas, other terrorists in Gaza and the Gazans themselves.

How would this be done?  Complete destruction of all infrastructure, buildings, urban centers, the airport and the dock of Gaza.  Turning off all electricity, supplies, money and essentially cutting off Gaza from the rest of the world.  Then a complete and thorough carpet bombing of the residential and urban areas - another Dresden, use fire bombs, incendiaries and all conventional weapons at Israel's disposal for a set period of time.  Then, whenever some terrorist jackass decides to launch a Kassam in Israel - the IDF responds disproportionally by launching  50 projectiles back into Gaza for every single missile launched into Israel.  This action will go on indefinitely without regard for world opinion.  Until two courses of action take place.  One, Hamas unconditionally surrenders (hey like it or not they are the sovereign government of Gaza - so lets treat them as such) or two, Israel forcibly annexes Gaza by right of conquest, which IMHO should have happened after 1967!

Make no bones about this, the only thing the arabs understand is victory or defeat.  Any middle ground or wussy action only serves to embolden them.  Emboldening them only means the more deaths of innocent Israelis.

2 I am a fully assmiliated American.  I never I NEVER identified with my Jewish roots until I was in my 20s.  However, every year I get older the more militant I have become.  The proliferation of my exposure to pro-Israeli blogs and my experience and study in history, makes me even more militant.  I just cannot in my mind rationalize the suicidal behavior in trying to negotiate with these animals.
