My influences - So Cal

Growing up in So Cal was FUN.  There really isn't any other place more interesting, diverse and entertaining than Southern California.

I have been told, not by everyone mind you, that when they speak to me on the phone that I do have a sort of valley accent (watch the movie Valley Girl - to get an idea of that).  I have to point out that when I called Tasha and left a voice mail, I mistakenly said this is Robert from California.  I guess no matter what I will ALWAYS consider myself a Californian.   LOL

Anyway, as I have noted before - I was born in Compton (yes that compton - home of gang violence and gangsta rap).  We lived in South Gate, CA until I was about 5 years old then moved to Riverside, CA and I lived there until I was about 27 years old.  Here is a map to get a degree of the distances involved.  Then I moved to Temple City - just south of Pasadena.

It really is a beautiful place to live and one gets EASILY spoiled living there.  Let's face it, California is one of the most ideal places to live in the entire world.  I remember when I was in High School there were times we would go to Mount Baldy, load up a friends truck with snow and then drive to the beach and have snowball fights at the beach!  How many places in the world can you do that in a matter of 3 - 4 hours!  Not many.  Then you have all of the recreation that you could think of.  Clubs, concerts, movies, TV shows, shopping...its all there and then some!

One of the reasons I LOVED living in Pasadena was that it was in the middle of EVERYTHING.  20 minutes from TV show tapings (That 70s show or friends to hundreds of other shows), to concerts to many other things that I just cannot think of now.

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to describe influences.  When I was growing up I was heavily influenced by hispanic and black culture.  This was most prominent in the music I enjoy (duh!) and in my car's.  It is still very normal for me to pump up the music I listen to in the car to a very loud volume hehe...I dont think that will ever change.  When I was in my early 20's I went through the phase of loading up my car with speakers and Amps....I just knew way too many people who had 4 or even 6 12 inch speakers with 300+ watts of amp power so that you could hear their car coming down the streets miles before you would actually see them! LOL  Yeah, I almost got that bad. LOL and I LOVE BASS!!!  Still do. LOL  Parties, Raves, Discos and dance clubs, while I never went to them very often (ok rarely) but when I did go...just loved listening to the jams and watching people dance.

My sister's favorite place is Disneyland.  Even now she tries to go there multiple times a year.  My favorite has always been Knotts Berry Farm - I just enjoy the western theme.  I know many LOVE Magic Mountain, but I have always had a fear of heights (yeah flying to Israel is really going to test that LOL)  Roller coasters and I just have never mixed.
