Billy Paul - Me and Mrs. Jones

General Franscico Franco is still Dead

If you know that phrase your probably laughing right now.  If you don't - that was a phrase that Chevy Chase in the news because well, let's have Wikipeda explain.

After Franco's death, Chevy Chase, reader of the news on Saturday Night Live's comedic news segment Weekend Update, announced the dictator's death and read a quotation from Richard Nixon: "General Franco was a loyal friend and ally of the United States. He earned worldwide respect for Spain through firmness and fairness";[2] as an ironic counterpoint to this, a picture was displayed behind Chase, showing Franco standing alongside Adolf Hitler, both of them giving the "Nazi salute", a photo similar to the one shown here. From that point on, Chase made it clear that SNL would get the last laugh at Franco's expense. "This breaking news just in", Chase would announce-- "Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!"[3] The top story of the news segment for several weeks running was that Generalissimo Francisco Franco was still dead. Chase would repeat the story at the end of the news segment, aided by Garrett Morris, "head of the New York School for the Hard of Hearing", whose "aid" in repeating the story involved cupping his hands around his mouth and shouting the headline. The line was also a perceived slap at then-NBC Nightly News main anchor John Chancellor, who due to his background as a foreign correspondent, felt the network should weigh its news more heavily toward world events, keeping Franco's deathwatch at the top of the headlines. The gag ran until early 1976

Why am I mentioning this.  Well our generation has had a couple of figures that keep this gag alive.  First was Arafat.  The Wall Street Journal has a really good time with Arafat's death and they created a new pharse.  It is something like "Yassair Arafat is resting comfortably after dying in a French Hospital."  But the one that lives up to the Franco standard is Castro!  And, yesterday there was another death watch for Fidel.
Unfortunately it has not panned out.  And it seems that Castro is still alive.

Arizona School Suspends Student for Drawing "A Really Crappy Gun".
Posted by Harvey at 01:34 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (2)

MESA, Arizona (AP) - Officials at an Arizona school suspended a 13-year-old boy for sketching what looked like a gun, saying it was quite possibly the worst thing ever created by human hands.

Could the recent flooding in the Midwest be caused by angels looking at this picture and crying?

Payne Junior High Principal Karen Martin said the boy deserved to be suspended for his talentless artwork. "Worst drawing I've ever seen. My 3-year-old does better than that with fingerpaints, and he's a retarded epileptic."

"When I first saw that picture," said Martin, I thought, 'What the hell IS that? A 5-eyed mutant with a moustache? An elephant that got caught in a hydraulic press? A cubist zeppelin?'."

"When another student told me it was a gun, my response was, 'Yeah... a really CRAPPY gun!'. At this point I decided to suspend the talentless little twerp, since there was no point in wasting more public funds on someone who has no future beyond maybe drawing pathetic stick figures on the internet or something."

School District spokesman Terry Locke said that - although the crude sketch wasn't actually a threat according to the school's zero-tolerance policy where "possession or threatening use of any weapon, real or simulated, is strictly prohibited" - the inherant artlessness of the image "constituted a violent threat to the aesthetic sensibilities of the student body. This garbage makes Ted Rall look like freakin' Rembrandt."

The boy's mother, Paula Mosteller, supported the school's decision. "At first I was angry that they seemed to be singling my son out for no good reason. Then I got a look at that abomination he created. YEESH! I mean, is the trigger guard wearing a necklace? Why are there shark's teeth at the end of the barrel? It's got all the accuracy and realism of a Michael Moore documentary."

"I'm so ashamed that he's my son," Paula concluded sadly. "I should've had my tubes tied 14 years ago and spared the world the misery of this drawing's existence."

New Heep Clip - Professor Tasha?

You know, I don't even know how to describe this LOL  The screen shot gave me the impression of Professor Tasha!  - so forgive me if I roll with that - haha

At first it looked like the girls were bored and trying to figure out what to do.   Then Tasha pulls out a book and starts reading.  So my question is what book was she reading from?   And Dishka in the background was providing comic relief.  The best part was her playing with the cat...that was funny!  Also, when Dishka is adjusting Tasha's shirt after the bikini top...Tasha's facial expression...reminds me of Buster Keaton...totally deadfaced - totally funny!  It looks like they were making fun of those other clips with the girls reading on the beach..ie Tasha in her bikini top.   FUNNY STUFF!

The Flying Imams - LOSERS!

This is a story I have been following but just have not had the inclination to really discuss...but since this is GREAT news....I just had to throw it up here.

The Flying Imams have dropped the case against John Does.  You might not know who John Does are....but in the simplest terms they are any one of us who observes something suspicious and report it.  Yes, these Muslims were trying to silence everyone of us from reporting suspicious activities and I MUST give HUGE props to Michelle Malkin and the Hot Air crew for fighting this fight and keeping the issue alive.  Especially when the Dhimmicratic Congress tried to prevent this protection from being promulgated into law.

According to Wizbang, here is the money quote,

"One week after being asked by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty to sign on the dotted line, the "flying imams" did just that, dismissing all claims against the unidentified passengers who reported the suspicious behavior of six imams aboard a U.S. Airways flight in November. When the attorneys for the imams included the unidentified passengers (who they listed as John Does) in the complaint, The Becket Fund demanded that the passengers be dropped from the suit and announced that it would represent for free any passengers who were identified and formally named. When the imams' attorneys pressed ahead, the Becket Fund submitted an amicus brief, asking the court to dismiss the claims, and then sent another letter with a blank notice of dismissal for the imams' attorneys to sign. Following further briefing, the imams' attorneys today relented and finally dismissed the John Does."

GREAT JOB Becket Fund.

My political beliefs

The one thing everyone knows about me is that I have an undying interest in all things political and philosophical.  The meaning of life, theories of knowledge, rational thought and critical thinking - all of that and more...I find of interest.  I have a substantial library at my home of about 2000 books (it used to be more but after moving 3 times in two years I had no alternative but to tone down my book collection).  And, the reason I don't expand my library is in the chance that I end up relocating to Israel permanently.

Anyway, I have always been rather political.  My Bachelors Degree was a Bachelors of Science in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration.  Ever since I was a kid I had a passion for history and always enjoyed politics.  When I was in junior high school I had to do a report on a country and I chose Israel and I had to write to the Israel Embassy in Los Angeles to request information.  I remember this because I still have the report.  This was the time that Israel was turning 35 years old (1983).  My best friend and I worked on that project.  We aced it.

As a young adult I used to hang out at Renanissance Books in Riverside and the owner (the county head of the Liberterian Party) and I used to talk and debate (about once a month I was there).  Those were interesting times because he was very hippie-like.  But he was smart and I took part of that with me as I grew and matured.   Just as Cal Baptist and its community influenced me for better and worse, my conversations with this guy (and I cannot remember his name for the life of me) influenced me.

Ever since In High School, I was political.  When I was taking AP History classes (advanced placement) I never shyed away from debates.  I remember doing research on Karl Marx (and I found him too naively positive about human nature).  I love philosophy - those were my most favorite classes in college - Classical political philosophy and modern political philosophy.  My favorite philosophers are Niccolo Machiavelli, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke.  I also enjoy Immanuel Kant, but that is some heavy reading and it gets rather draining.  I have at least 4 copies of Plato's Republic because each one is a slightly different translation - thus you can take a different meaning of the work.

When it comes to modern political issues here is where I tend to stand:

Abortion - Pro-choice but slightly - I do not believe in late term abortions unless the mother's life is at risk

Death Penalty - PRO death penalty - I wish Israel had the death penalty as well - then there would be no issue in freeing prisoners for hostage.

Taxes - The lower the better.  I really like Neal Boortz's fair tax

Drugs - I am actually for the legalization of most drugs - tax them.  BUT, if someone commits a crime under the influence, throw the book at them.

Gay Marriage - I am against it. - I think that if they want to try to pass this they should do it the properly constitutionally mandated way and promulgate a Constitutional Amendment.  IF they do not have the support for that, then they should not try to do any shortcuts.   THOUGH, I am for civil unions.

The War on Terror - This is the main function of the Federal Government and we should be fighting this as we did WWII.  We should allocate more resources to fight this more thoroughly.  Whatever Presidential candidate is more aggressive in this area is probably going to win my vote in the next election.

Military - I am very much for the expansion of the military budget and resources.  This serves as a deterrent and a means of discovery and societal improvements.

The Environment - what a freaking joke.  Most environmentalists are like a watermelon - Green in the outside - Red in the inside.  In other words, environmentalism is just another way socialists will try to use the power of the government [against its people] and expand the power of government against individuals.

I would have no problem if various cabinet positions were dissolved:  End the:

Department of Education - This should be a state issue - not a federal one
Department of Labor - Same as above - but also it blends with Congress's authority
Secretary of Agriculture - Not needed anymore - let the market dictate.
Health and Human Service - This is a purely state issue.  States have more impact here.
Housing and Urban Development - Same as above.
Transportation - should only be applicable for interstate means of transportation and international trade

I guess one could say that I am a California Republican.  Conservative on Fiscal/military issues but fairly liberal on social issues.

Disneyland

I just got back from my sister's place.  hehe she called me a stranger, since I don't go there very often anymore. LOL  They are going to California from Tuesday - Saturday and they plan to go to Disneyland at least 3 times (they are getting an annual pass).  I will be stuck watching my niece and nephew LOL.  (sounds like the time when we had the very first chatroom and had the chats with Tasha about the bar clip. LOL - since I was at my sister's house watching the kids then too). Anyway, she asked to borrow my camcorder and I said Yes.  So, I might have clips coming of my sister's trip to Disneyland.   If I know my brother in law he will be using the entire 37 hours of filming and photos! LOL.  In the chatroom yesterday Yair and Tasha asked when I would have clips..I am thinking the answer is going to be alot sooner than later.

My humor

Occasionally I can come up with a one liner that just hits the ball right out of the park. It does not happen very often, but when it does...wow.  Even I am awed LOL.

For example when I worked at PacifiCare, I had a good friend who kept bragging about her going to see George Straight in concert.  She kept going on and on...and well...it was COUNTRY MUSIC...LOL after a few hours...I had to put her in check..so she comes over to my area and starts gloatting and I respond to her...totally deadfaced and said, Darlene, I cant understand a word your saying...I don't speak inbred.  Totally unexpected..and I had gotten full affect...she just started laughing so much she lost coordination and when she tried to swing at me...she missed and almost fell down laughing.  Everyone in my department just complimented my put down LOL

Well, a couple of  days ago...it happened again.  WickedPinto has a blog (he commented here a few times) his blog is called Absolute Moral Authority.  He had a post:

As I’m sure you know, I’m all about cats, especially those cute little funny one’s.

NO I’m Not!!!  Why the hell is “funny cats” our top search term!!!  I’m not a cat guy, I make fun of cats, I mock cats, SCREW CATS!

What the hell!!!

My response was simple:

You Screw Cats?  EWWW! LOL

I had the same affect
