I guess it's simply a case of the law acknowledging actual local practice.
It's actually a mistake in the drafting of the law, but it will be seized upon to make fun of bumpkin Arkansas, which is how it should be.
A law passed this year allows Arkansans of any age -- even infants -- to marry if their parents agree, and the governor may have to call a special session to fix the mistake, lawmakers said Friday. The legislation was intended to establish 18 as the minimum age to marry but also allow pregnant teenagers to marry with parental consent, bill sponsor Rep. Will Bond said.
An extraneous "not" in the bill, however, allows anyone who is not pregnant to marry at any age if the parents allow it.
"It's clearly not the intent to allow 10-year-olds or 11-year-olds to get married," Bond said. "The legislation was screwed up."

Life is good. and now it is relaxing! I think its getting time for some videos to make up for the weekend. (And since I missed the Old School show last night - because I was watching the History Channel). Tonight, I will watch Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - after I hit the gym.

My grandfather suffered a stroke while driving home from work. How he managed to get off the road safely I have no idea. He suffered the stroke on May 5th 1972. My grandmother's birthday is May 6th and at that time my grandfather was having brain surgery and passed away. On May 7th, that was my uncle's Birthday (his son's birthday. On May 8th I was born. While I was being born my mom was giving birth to me. She could not attend the funeral of her father.
When my mom and I were released from the hospital, my aunt Mary kept calling me Robby and Robby Dobbie and other baby names. It just sort of stuck. My mom and grandmother told me it was an honor to be named after him and that he was always watching out for me.
I wish I had gotten to met him. That was the one thing in my life I wish I was able to do. But, sometimes I do sense his presence, though I couldn't describe it, it's just something I feel.
So, that is how I became Robert Clayton Woolwine. (And even then there was a time when I was about to change my name and drop Woolwine - but that's for another post.).

Let me just start back to as far as I can go. My Great-grandmother Jenny Singaus/Singloff. She was born in Russia. I do not know the exact city, but I heard it was near Lithuania. She lived there until the Russian Civil War (1917-1923). She ended up in China as a refugee. I know she settled in Harbin, China because that is where my grandmother was born. My Great grandmother was hit with the butt of a rifle and nearly blinded in her left eye. When she came to the States, her husband was already dead. She married his brother who got their family into the US. When he passed away, he died right in front of my mom when she was a teenager. Believe it or not he died in the middle of telling a joke and they thought him becoming quiet was part of the joke my mom said.
My Grandma Luba Golenpolsky (my grandfather added the sky when they came to the United States and the pol was added by my Great-grandfather when they were in China). My grandmother is still alive and she is so happy that I am going to Israel next year. LOL She sounded so excited. I will do a separate post about her late. So I will just move on to my grandfather.
My grandfather Robert Golenpolsky (yes I am named after him- I was supposed to be named David Clayton Woolwine) was a great man. During World War II he was an ambulance driver in Shanghai. He spoke at least 18 language fluently. Every dialect of Chinese, German, French, English, Yiddish, Hebrew, a bit of Japanese, and Russian. I heard stories about him taking his 4 wheeled ambulance into a two wheel drive..to make sure his passengers got to the hospital! He was an ambulance driver in the French Quarter of Shanghai.
My mother was born in Shanghai in March 27, 1945 - Mifa Golenpolsky (she became Woolwine). She lived in China until about 1948.
They already had family in the US (my mom's great uncle) he lived in Minnesota. When the Civil war happened in China he had some serious connections. He knew President Richard Nixon's law partner. Richard Nixon helped my mom and their family leave China and helped them emigrate to the United States before he became Vice President! When President Nixon died and was buried in Yorba Linda, CA (about 20 min from me at the time) I was tempted to go and pay my respects. Because I would not be here if it wasn't for his efforts in getting my family out of China and into the United States.
My mom's family left China and they ended up in Germany in a Camp...while all their belongings (furs and Jewels and cloths) went to Israel. For a while they debated on going to Israel or to the US. My grandfather, I have been told, wanted to die an American. I have some of his belongings and he was a huge fan of JFK.
They ended up in Germany and stayed there for about 2 years until the Visa's came through and then they legally emigrated to the United States. They followed the laws and entered the country legally around 1952. They settled in Southern California. There are pictures of my mom as a very young child on a boat holding her portable toilet seat. She was so cute! LOL. I honestly cannot imagine having to do that. But after hearing about thing things my mom witnessed in China (the civil war) and such they made the right decision to come to the States.
My grandfather applied to work for the FBI as a translator, and he got a letter back from J. Edgar Hoover thanking him for his application and that he would have been a valuable asset but he was past the age requirement. My grandfather worked a variety of jobs and my mom said growing up he was like a big kid, he loved playing jokes on my mom's friends. My uncle (Sam Roberts - he changed his name) was the first person from their family born in the United States. My uncle is a musician, he loves playing blues. That is his passion. I wish I could say him and I get along well...but he tends to view my sister and I as teenagers. LOL.
When my grandmother was in the hospital (we thought she was going to pass last year because she has Congestive Heart Failure). He tried to enforce HIPAA against us from finding out her status. I literally blew up at him on the phone (I am in Arizona and he was in California) and I disowned him. I really did. It take a hell of alot to upset me. But he did, and I caught him lying - given my experience in the medical insurance industry. He lied, he got caught and I wrote him off at the time. We ended up patching things up. And, I think he has a bit more respect for me, but when I talk to him I do tend to tread on eggshells. But, I owe my life to him. He saved our family and I will get into that when I do my post about my father and my mother. Sufficient to say, I do love him and I owe him my life, despite our disagreements.

Once I got home, Chris emailed me about Tasha's blog post. And instantly a nice Friday turned sad. I feel just sad for both of them. And, that is what prompted my post from last night. I hate seeing Tasha sad and depressed. Then, Chris, Dan and I were chatting in the chatroom about the day's events and Tasha's post and as we were talking we had a visitor. Yair showed up.
He showed up about 30 min after my post. We were kinda nervous, to be honest. We didn't know what to expect...but the visit turned out very nice. He is a good guy, and they are both going through a very stressful time. After he left, I was torn, should I tell Tasha or not. In the end, yes, I told her. I felt it was the right thing to do. To tell you how much I was debating this, Yair stopped in around 8 pm my time. I didn't send the note to Tasha until about 11 pm my time.
Around midnight my time Tasha came into the chatroom. Dan and I filled her in with what was going on. We apologized for causing any additional hardship and hoped that she was feeling better. And, had a very nice visit with her trying to help her, as much as we can, through this rough time. After about 40 minutes, the conversation began to wind down.
It was a very nice visit with both Yair and Tasha, I just wish it was under better circumstances. Take care everyone!

Here is what Ace has to say:
Peace College Opens, *Finally;* School Hopes To Attract Students With Promise Of Easy Hairy-Legged Hippie-Whores
It's just so crazy it might work!
Two problems:
1) We already have plenty of "peace colleges." We usually call them "colleges."
2) The curriculum seems to consist entirely of ending war by "legitimizing disagreements by learning to recognize The Other." Okay, good. "You are The Other; I hereby recognize you in all your diverse Othertude." That takes us all the way through the third period Monday the day it opens. What the hell do you teach for the remaining 7.99998 semesters?
I guess that's where the hairy-legged hippie-whores come in.
Damn. If only.
I wonder if they'd let me audit a couple of classes on Advanced Marxist Critiques of Comparative Effeminacy and How To Convince A Hippie-Whore That John Lennon's Imagine Is Actually An Extended Metaphor For Anal.
Now, how is this different from regular colleges? Seriously, when I went to Cal Baptist my academic adviser was the chair of the political science department. In my Congress and the Presidency class I wrote a paper just bashing the crap out of Jimmy "The Dhimmi" Carter showing how ineffectual his presidency was. When I got the paper back on the back of it my professor (my adviser) wrote a 2 page rebuttal trying to show that my views were skewed and somewhat inaccurate. I still got an A-.
This was at Cal Baptist, a very conservative and religious college!
